'Import existing data only' in merge options

I would love the ability to import a csv file, and have the merge option for 'Merge existing records only.'
Reason being is that sometimes I am needing to add a 'tag' to large numbers of users at a time. The easiest way to do so is by importing via CSV, so I often make a tag and reimport. This however becomes an issue if a user has unsubscribed from the software.

Another use case - I have a dataset that contains everyone I want to Unsubscribe. It has a ton of contacts in there from another system - I just want to update existing contacts to set email permission to false or to archive them. I obviously don't want to import all the other contacts and then set the email permission to false or then have to archive them again.

Andy van der Gugten: Thanks for sharing Andy, makes a lot of sense. I'll have our team look into this soon.

I second this - the main constraint is really data set size. I have a huge dataset that makes Excel crawl if I need to apply filters prior to import. If I could just import with the option to only update existing contacts without creating new ones it would mean I don't have to alter the file at all making the import a lot easier.

Hi, if a contact has unsubscribed, this won't be changed via a CSV import unless you explicitly map a column to "Email permission".
Are you referring to people that you have already archived? And you don't want these people brought back to active?
Assuming this is the case, the other current option is to export the list of current users from Ortto first, and then apply your filtering to this list, to then re-import for users you want to tag.
Is there a restriction that means you can't identify the list of people to Tag within Ortto? (e.g. building a filter on the People page).
Thanks

Peter Bartlett: No the case would be more that I have a huge external data set. There are certain fields that have changed in that dataset. Because it's quite large it is very tedious to get only records that also exist in Ortto out, create a CSV that can then be imported. It would be much easier to just throw everything at Ortto but tell it to only update contacts it already has and not import new ones.
