Currently, Ortto supports dynamic variables (merge tags) that pull information from individual contact records.
However, there is no built-in functionality for global dynamic variables—values that can be stored in one place and referenced across multiple emails, campaigns, and automations.
This feature would allow users to update a single variable once, and have that change automatically reflected wherever the variable is used (e.g., across 100+ emails).
Use Case Example
A company like ours frequently includes brand-wide statistics (e.g., total members, total donations, event countdowns, revenue milestones) in marketing emails.
Right now, updating a number like "Total uScore Members: 900,000" means manually changing it in every single email. If we had a centralized global variable, we could simply update one field (e.g., [uscore_member_count] = 1,000,000), and it would update automatically across all emails using that variable.
Key Benefits
✅ Efficiency – Eliminates manual updates across multiple emails or automation flows.
✅ Consistency – Prevents errors or outdated values appearing in different campaigns.
✅ Scalability – Ideal for large organizations managing multiple campaigns with recurring metrics.
✅ Improved Automation – Works seamlessly with workflows without requiring complex workarounds.
Proposed Implementation
Global Variables Panel: A section within the Ortto workspace where users can define and manage global variables.
Merge Tag Support: Variables should be usable in all content blocks (emails, SMS)
Easy Updates: Users update the value once, and it reflects everywhere automatically.
This feature would significantly enhance Ortto’s value for teams managing large-scale, non-contact-specific marketing content.
Would love to see this on the roadmap. Thanks for considering it.
